Steering by A Star is well written and thoroughly entertaining. Dr. Brenda Adams takes the reader with her on a trip around the world on a tall ship. Truely the stuff of dreams for most of us and reality for only a few. Breda's easy writing style guides the reader through the rigors of crewing a sailing ship: the hardships , the moments of self discovery and the humorous side of living with 40 crew members for twelve months. I enjoyed every paragraph. I don't think Dr. Adams' adventures are over and I eagerly await her next book - Mike GProduct details

After reading Brenda Adams', Steering by a Star, I simply had to read it again. Adams tells a wonderful story of an incredible trip that many of us will never have the opportunity or the guts to make. Traveling around the world on a tall ship is something I can only dream of but thanks to Adams for sharing her experiences, I feel like I have been there. I felt the oppressive heat of the tropics, the fatigue she felt on the night watch, and laughed at the antics of her and her shipmates. If you are an adventurer, or just a armchair adventurer, I guarantee you will love this book!
I love a good journey tale. I especially love stories of modern, well-entrenched professionals who burn the leash and sally forth on adventures. This is one of those and I enjoyed it very much.
Brenda Adams, an established medical doctor, decides to leave the comfort of her practice and predictable life behind and sail the high seas for a full year. In "Steering By A Star", Ms. Adams shares the whole deal--the grit and grind of living aboard an old vessel, as well as her discovery of a new set of eyes through which to see the world.
By turns introspective, honest and funny, this book could well inspire many almost middle aged people to follow their heart and see where the path less traveled leads.
